A MAN has been arrested following a traffic collision in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, July 17) which left a cyclist in a serious condition.

Police were called to Whitefield Lane in Prescot just after midnight.

Emergency services found a 26-year-old man with serious head and back injuries. He was taken to hospital where his condition remains serious but stable.

Patrols in the area were stepped up and a short time later a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop.

He had been taken to a police station where he is being questioned by officers.
