UPDATE: Women taken to hospital after collision
A WOMAN had to be cut out from the wreckage of a car after it was in collision with a lorry on the East Lancs earlier this afternoon.
The woman, thought to be aged in her 50s, was lifted from the Renault Megane on a long stretcher before being taken to hospital.
Firefighters had cut away the roof of the car to free her. She was taken to Whiston Hospital, though at this stage her injuries are not believed to be serious
Initial reports suggested two women had been cut free but Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement on Tuesday that the second woman had been assessed at the scene.
The crash happened shortly after 2.30pm near to the dual carriageway’s junction with Carr Mill Road, opposite the Waterside pub
Fire crews were on the scene until nearly 4pm. Road closures caused considerable traffic congestion around St Helens through Monday afternoon.
A LORRY has been in collision with a car on the East Lancs Road opposite the Waterside pub at Carr Mill leading to traffic tailbacks.
One lane has been closed and emergency services are at the scene. It is understood that two women were in the car but at this stage there are no reports of any injuries.
