FOUR new benches that were installed in Victoria Park as part of a multi-million pound lottery funded facelift have been stolen.
Thieves cut through metal security fixtures and removed the wrought iron seats last Wednesday evening “The black benches are made of wrought iron with wooden slats. We would urge anyone with information about the theft to contact the police,” said a spokesman for St Helens Council.
Last month small metal flower holders were stolen from a grave in St Helens Cemetery, prompting the suggestion that metal thieves might on the prowl.
