A STUDENT who is attracting the attention of big names in fashion is celebrating after landing a six-month work placement.

Jade Barrett, from Billinge, has bagged a position at The House of Holland label after impressing through the social media photo sharing site Instagram. The 22-year-old, who is the final year of her degree in Digital Design for Fashion at the University of Central Lancashire, caught the eye of designers after they used the site to search for interns.

The former Rainford High pupil will spend six months as an intern at Henry Holland, working with a design team on the label’s final collection for a catwalk show.

Jade said: “I’m excited. Hopefully it will act as a springboard for my career.”

Her spring and summer collection, which takes a tongue in cheek look at 1950s American fashion, contains 24 outfits that focus on embroidery and lace.

She added: “I’ve always been a big fan of Marilyn Monroe and 1950s America was a great era for fashion.

“I love bright colours and a mix of materials. My mum showed me how to use a sewing machine when I started secondary school and I’ve never looked back.”

Jade’s work impressed judges at Graduate Fashion Week in London where she was runner-up for the Karen Millan Portfolio Award.
