THE family of cerebral palsy sufferer Jack Mordecai say they have been “filled with hope” by donations they have received.

Jack, from Moss Bank, was diagnosed with the condition aged 12 months and has been unable to walk or sit unaided. And he underwent a double-hip reconstruction in March of this year following severe dislocations.

Despite the family have been told that it is more than likely he will never walk they continue to hold out hope for Jack to move independently.

And they have launched an online fundraising campaign to help Jack deal with his condition and aid him with mobility.

A new website dedicated to Jack has been set up on www.jackofhearts.org.uk and there is a dedicated ‘Jack of Hearts’ Facebook page and Twitter account which people can follow @JackOfHeartsUK.

The aim is to raise enough funds for an electric motorised wheelchair enabling Jack to enjoy the independence of moving around in it. It’s going really well. We have raised over £3,600 in total so far and there is still more to come,” said Jack’s mum Andrea, 45.

“Since we launched the website people have contacted me by email and there have been a couple of large donations.

“We can’t believe how much has come and we’ve even had people stopping us in the street after seeing about it in the paper.

“It’s filled us with hope in helping gain Jack his independence. We see him keep trying to crawl around as he sees his baby nephew, Jim crawling around, it’s heartbreaking really.

“Getting him in that wheelchair means everything.”

The family have set an initial target of £8,000 with it is also hoped for money to go towards vital daily physiotherapy for Jack and enable him to have daily use of a standing frame to help strengthen his legs.

The next fundraising event for Jack, ‘Together We Unite’ will take place at Moss Bank Labour Club on Saturday, July 26. Organised by Tricia Highcock of Jays Mini market, tickets are £10 each and can be obtained by contacting the family by emailing contact@jackofhearts.org.uk or by calling 01744 637688. Alternatively, people can call into Jays Mini Market on Wythburn Crescent, or contact Tricia on Facebook.
