FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a blaze after arsonists targeted a trampoline in a park.

A crew from Eccleston was called shortly after 8pm on Wednesday June 25 to Hard Lane and was at the scene for around an hour.

The fire caused severe damage and is suspected to have been started deliberately.

Watch Manager Mike Costello said: “There was quite a lot of black smoke being given off by this fire and we could see the smoke as we left the station. Fires such as these can pose a risk to those who may have started them and to nearby residents if their windows were open. It could also have posed a risk to passing traffic if it had blown across a road.

“This fire means the local community has lost a facility in their area.

“We investigate every fire we are called to and work with the police to find those responsible for arson.”

The Merseyside Fire Service control room had received ten calls about the fire.
