SOCCER fans have been enjoying a real taste of the World Cup at the Manor Farm pub restautant in Rainhill.

For chef Adam Whittaker, who runs the popular pub restaurant, is offering customers complimentary food from international recipes reflecting the traditions of the teams playing in each game.

It was hot pot and roast spuds when England played and with something a bit spicier when Argentina were involved with grilled sausage with tangy parsley and garlic salsa. The menu also featured Iranian stew and Chilean style stuffed potatoes filled with spices beef and garlic.

Adam, aged 22 is one of the youngest publicans in the North West.

Hewas 14 when he first started work at the collecting empty glasses. He worked his way up from kitchen porter to commis chef then head chef.

He said: “I learnt my cookery skills working alongside some very experienced chefs and then returned to Manor Farm as assistant manager. In March this year I successfully applied to purchase the franchise of the Marstons-owned public house and now I am in charge. I always said I wanted to run this place one day but it came about a lot quicker than I expected!”

Manor Farm is a grade II listed building which dates back to 1662 built on the site of a building thought to date back to 1200. The farm was turned into a public house in 1973.

A ‘Party on the Farm’ music festival is planned over the weekend of July 5 and 6 in aid of Willowbrook Hospice. The Hummingbirds head a programme of groups, solo artists and DJs.

Visitors will be asked to make donations to the hospice and the £5 car parking charge will also go Willowbrook.
