POSTAL workers stood firm over their objections to delivering free copies of The Sun newspaper in St Helens, the Star understands.
A special World Cup edition of the paper was due to be delivered to about 22 million homes in England last week. And although large parts of Merseyside were due to be excluded because of the title’s coverage of the Hillsborough tragedy 25 years ago, copies were still planned to be delivered to some parts of St Helens.
Following talks between unions and management, a Royal Mail spokesman said that if employees had strong objections it would look at them individually.
On Friday, a number of postmen who the Star contacted said they could not discuss the matter.
However, it is understood that their refusal to deliver the paper still stood.
