TEAM mates and work colleagues of former dual code rugby player and fireman Brian ‘Ike’ Fishwick will be pulling on their boots again this Saturday.
They will be taking part in a charity match between Burtonwood All Stars and Ike’s Barbarians at Ruskin Park rugby club to raise funds for Cancer Research after learning that their 62 year-old pal has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The packman was a leading fireman at Parr Stocks fire station until he had to retire due to ill health. He loved playing rugby and was just 15 when he turned out for Prescot open age team. The prop forward played for the Merseyside Fire Service team and also for Ormskirk.
“About 80 of dad’s mates have been in touch and will be at Ruskin Park on Saturday for the game between Burtonwood Vets and a mixture of players from the teams he played with. All our family will be there from 1pm and the match will kick-off at three o’clock,” said Ike’s son, Andy.
