A 79-YEAR-OLD man is in a critical condition in hospital after colliding with a bus on Tuesday evening.

The pensioner suffered a head injury after he was knocked down by a single-decker Arriva bus at the junction of Borough Road and Alexandra Drive at 5.30pm.

He was taken to Fazakerley hospital in Liverpool for initial treatment before being transferred to Walton Neurological Centre.

His condition is described as critical. His next of kin are being informed.

The driver of the bus and the small number of passengers on board were not injured but the driver was left shaken.

Police officers closed the road to allow collision investigation work to be carried out.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the pedestrian in the moments before the collision, is asked to call collision investigators in Merseyside Police's roads policing department on 0151 777 5747.
