A 77-YEAR-OLD pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being knocked down by a car near to Whiston Hospital.
Police were called to Stoney Lane, near to its junction with Cumber Lane, just after 12.15pm today, to a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a car.
The pensioner was taken to the nearby hospital for treatment to his injuries which, at this time, are "believed to be serious, but not life threatening", said a police spokesman.
The driver of the car, a Lexus, stopped at the scene.
Stoney Lane and Dragon Lane were closed while enquiries into the collision were carried out.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call officers from the Matrix Serious Organised Crime Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747.
