MERSEYSIDE Police will celebrate its 40th anniversary with an open day on Saturday, June 28 at the Museum of Liverpool.

It will mark the force’s inception following nationwide reorganisation in 1974.

Dog handling and mounted sections will attract the crowds and there will be opportunities to take part in CSI workshops and try the fit of uniforms from the old days.

Spectators will also be able to watch a demonstration by the regional marine and underwater unit, meet the firearms team, explore police vehicles and try a firearms simulator.

Other features will be current and obsolete Police vehicles plus a fly-past by a police helicopter subject to demand. Admission to the event is free.
