A SLICE of £110,000 is up for grabs by those who come up with the best waste recycling ideas.

But there’s little over 24 hours to beat the deadline for applicants to come up with the prizewinning formula for reducing and reusing household waste.

Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority and contractor Veolia’s project will give a maximum single award of £20,000 from the £40,000 being made available from up to three regional projects and the remainder being awarded within individual districts at up to £10,000 per project.

The closing date for applications is tomorrow (Friday) June 13 and winning projects will be chosen by mid-August.

One of last year’s successful applicants was The Sewing Café in Knowsley who provided textile sessions teaching sewing skills, home furnishing and swap events.

MRWA Chief Executive Carl Beer said: “We’re giving the right projects a real opportunity to succeed and make a big difference to the volumes of waste that we currently have to send to landfill.”
