THOUSANDS of pounds are up for grabs for community groups but applications must be submitted as quickly as possible.

Helena Partnerships' Community Fund has set aside £36,000 to give away to help voluntary groups but the first £9,000 need to be applied for before Friday July 25.

Grants of up to £500 are available for non-profit groups and associations including youth groups.

Commercial organisations, national charities and individuals are not eligible.

If the money is not claimed before strict deadlines, it will return to Helena’s cash reserves.

Pauline Vass from Helena explained: “We have put this money aside for the good of the neighbourhoods we serve and in recognition of the great work done by voluntary groups to create and sustain vibrant communities.

“Many local groups have lost funding they previously relied on due to the austerity cuts but there is money available from us if it’s claimed in time.

“In the past we’ve given money to residents associations, allotment groups, schools, the police and fire service.

“All groups have to do to claim the money is show that it will be spent on activities which benefit local people.

“It would be such a shame if this money is not claimed in time and so I urge any groups that think they might be eligible to get in touch.”
