St Helens Star: Flooding prevention works will lead to traffic disruption Flooding prevention works will lead to traffic disruption

MOTORISTS are being warned to expect disruption in Eccleston as United Utilities continue with work to prevent flooding.

Sewers in Church Lane, Pikes Bridge Fold and Brooklands Road have been struggling to cope during periods of heavy rainfall - resulting in homes and gardens becoming flooded.

A new water storage tank has been installed in a field on Church Lane but the next phase will involve road closures and temporary traffic signals in several areas at the end of this month and into July.

Starting on Monday, June 23, for two weeks, United Utilities will be working at the mini roundabout at Church Lane, Springfield Lane, Broadway, and Chapel Lane, where temporary traffic lights will be installed.

Further work will then take place along Springfield Lane up to Acacia Grove for a further two weeks.

On Monday, July 7 - for two weeks – ‘stop and go’ boards will be used to control traffic on Pikes Bridge and Church Lane.

On July 14 work starts on Church Lane and will last for seven weeks – requiring the closure of the road to everyone except residents.

Starting July 21, Acacia Grove will close for four weeks. United Utiliies will be working to maintain access for residents for the majority of the works.

In a ststement United Utilities said: "The company will be working six days a week (including the bank holiday) throughout the project to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible.

"Bin collections will not be affected by the work – and residents should leave their wheelie bins and recycling containers in the usual place.

"United Utilities will ensure that refuse is taken to a designated collection point and returned once the containers have been emptied."
