FINGERPOST community garden was officially opened by Mayor and Mayoress Cllr Andy and Mrs Janice Bowden to the applause of Pitt Street people who instigated the transformation of wasteland alongside Pocket Nook Street.

New fencing, landscaping and tables and benches have been installed and further ground levelling is planned.

“The garden is open daily from 9am to 6pm for local residents to enjoy and with the new alley gates and secure fencing it’s a safe place for kids to play,” said Pitt Street resident Steve Davies, one of the motivators behind the scheme.

“Fingerpost Residents and Community Group are grateful to the many local businesses who have backed this project and supported the opening day and featured a barbecue and party with DJ White Wolf. This is the first phase and there will be more events to come.”

The party raised £238 and will go towards the provision of a defibrillator at Fingerpost shopping centre.
