A MAN who was arrested after car struck a traffic sign and burst into flames   last night will face no further action.

Police and firefighters were called to the Horseshoe roundabout on Broad Oak Road in Parr shortly before midnight following reports that a vehicle was blocking the road.

By the time emergency services arrived a man was out of the black Volvo.

Part of the vehicle had burst into flames but it was quickly extinguished by fire crews.

There was also some damage to a road sign on the island.

A man, who police arrested on suspicion of drinking driving, was taken to Whiston Hospital for a check up but he is not thought to have been injured.

He reported to a police station earlier this morning and no further action will be taken against him.
