HIGH school teacher Carol Ann Challoner lost her grandmother and five aunties to lung cancer.

Now she wants to raise awareness of the disease and on Saturday will take part in this year’s Liverpool Dream Walk to raise awareness of the disease and the patient support services offered by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Carol Ann, a teacher at Sutton Academy, also wants to help raise vital funds for the charity’s lung cancer research projects.

She said: “Lung cancer has killed six members of my family, including three of my aunties in less than a year, and has taken a devastating toll on all of our lives as we said goodbye to so many loved ones.

“I wish we'd have known more about Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation at that time so we could have received some support during an incredibly difficult time. I want to raise awareness of the charity so that other lung cancer patients and their families know where to find that level of support.

“I have taken part in several events on behalf of the charity and I’m taking part in the Dream Walk as I want to my bit to raise awareness of lung cancer and help to fund research to ultimately defeat this terrible disease.”

She and her father, Joey, have already raised funds for charity by competing in this year's BUPA Greater Manchester run.

The Liverpool Dream Walk takes place on Saturday at Sefton Park.
