SOME of the town’s sporting greats past and present attended a ceremony to honour that marked the unveiling of a plaque on the Steve Prescott Bridge.
Steve’s wife Linzi and their sons Koby and Taylor were at the event along with former Saints captains Paul Sculthorpe and Chris Joynt, boxer Martin Murray and rugby league legend Andy Gregory.
Former team-mate Tommy Martyn and ex Warrington Wolves half back Lee Briers marked the occasion with Steve’s brother Neil and ambassadors from the Steve Prescott Foundation, including Andy Reid.
Several recently completed the mammoth trek from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of the foundation raising in excess of £25,000.
The striking black and silver pavement plaque is inscribed with the words that inspired Steve through his courageous battle against cancer and those inspired by him – ‘What the mind believes, the body achieves’.
A number one - bearing the title the Steve Prescott Bridge stands beneath, at the St helens Linkway.
St Helens Council decided to name the bridge, which connects the town with Saints’ Langtree Park, as a tribute to Steve, who died in November last year aged 39.
