YOUTH Action St Helens is calling out to 16 and 17 year olds, who aspire to be part of a summer programme that will build leadership and teamwork skills.

Teenagers will enter an action-packed schedule, including outdoor activities such as canoeing and abseiling. Opportunities for participants to spend time away from home in university halls and other local accommodation will also be possible.

On completion of a 30-hour community project, successful participants will be invited to a graduation party, where they will receive a certificate.

The scheme, arranged through the National Citizens Service, will aim to develop skills that are deemed desirable to employers.

Kristian Brown, regional operations director at The NCS Network, said working on skills like leadership and teamwork means youths can learn lessons that are not taught in the classroom.
