A COMMUNITY fair is being held tomorrow (Thursday, May 22) at the Four Acre Health Centre to help to raise awareness of and help prevent strokes to mark Action on Stroke Month.
The event, which will last from 12.30 to 3.30pm on Burnage Avenue, will provide advice on mini-stroke and stroke prevention, including free blood pressure checks and information about Life After Stroke services.
In particular it is aimed to educate people about the mini-stroke, after research showed half of sufferers did not recognise the symptoms.
Marie Powner Family and Carer Support Coordinator at the Stroke Association said: “We’re hosting this event to give information to people in St Helens on how to reduce their stroke risk as there is a tremendous amount of misunderstanding around mini- stroke.”
According to the Stroke Association there are around 14,600 strokes each year in the North West and over 157,370 people living with the effects of a stroke.
