POLICE are hunting two men who attempted to steal cash from a security van in a bungled raid.

Officers were called just after noon following reports that two masked men had tried to get in the back of a van outside Lloyds TSB on Peckershill Road in Sutton.

The alarm was activated and after failing to get inside both escaped empty-handed in a dark coloured Audi.

No one was hurt during the incident.

A cordon has been put in place and witnesses are being spoken to. CCTV footage is also being examined.

Detective Inspector Ian Warlow said: "This is a busy street and due to the time of day it is likely plenty of people were in the area. I would appeal to anyone who saw the incident to contact police as your information could be really useful for our enquiries.

”Officers are now carrying out a full investigation into what happened. I would like to reassure the community that we will do everything we can to find the people responsible and thankfully on this occasion no one was injured.

”If you do have any information please call 0800 230 0600 or if you wish to give information anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
