VISITORS are invited to join in celebrations for International Blacksmith Day at The Smithy Heritage Centre, Eccleston.

The free annual event, to be held on Saturday,May 24, will include live craft demonstrations. A mixture of activities and games will also be set up for the audience to join in.

Phill Gregson will be on hand to exhibit the craft of wheel construction, known more popularly as wheelwrighting. He will be joined by Rosemary Tyler who will demonstrate spinning, a traditional textiles technique used in manufacturing.

Blacksmith Mark Constable, of Al Fresco Forge, will be taking part in displays by demonstrating the techniques used to create different patterns on wooden surfaces.

A hog roast will be served for guests and local butchers Burchalls will provide pies to be sold at the event. Real ale and cider will also be served until 11pm.
