NEIGHBOURS were left shocked after thieves stole items from vehicles parked outside owners’ homes in a quiet cul-de-sac.

In the early hours of Monday morning vehicles outside eight properties in Percival Way were targeted.

Sat navs and sound systems, mobile devices, cash, work bags, clothes and a purse went missing in the raids.

“It happened between 12.30am and 5.30am,” said one of the victims who said their family vehicle was definitely locked.

She later found one door was ajar and items had been stolen when the driver returned to the vehicle later that day.

The victim added: “More vehicles of all makes were affected the same way, doors unlocked but with no visible signs of entry. Police said they thought the thieves may have used some form of alarm disarming and unlocking device.”

Merseyside Police Inspector Steve Lowe said: "I would like to reassure people that generally thefts from cars in the area are rare. Part of the investigation is focusing on how entry was gained to these vehicles.

"Many reported thefts are often from insecure vehicles, with the offenders simply taking anything that is readily to hand. Remember to remove all valuables from vehicles, even the boot."

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 6829 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Motorists are advised to avoid parking in queit side roads, ensure all doors and windows are secured when leaving the vehicle.

Three times now I have filmed people trying the locks on my car. (I have now set the software to play a loud sound when someone approaches my vehicle)

Send the footage to the police as it helps them identify the scum!

'Motorists are advised to avoid parking in queit side roads, ensure all doors and windows are secured when leaving the vehicle.'.. what pointless advice if you happen to live on quiet side road. As one of the people in the report pointed out, they had left their car secured.

the problem with new cars is the security systems fitted to them, you can buy a scanner that talks to your cars electronics and the security system can be over ridden,if you have key-less entry the thief can alter the entry system with a downloaded software app and change the code and just drive away if they wished to,barrier systems ( crook locks ) are a must,or fitting a secondary locking system is a better solution.
