THE country's premier mixed jump and flat horse racing meeting is being staged on Saturday at Haydock Park Racecourse.

The Swinton Hurdle Raceday, (featuring the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle), has attracted some of the country's leading jockeys and trainers.

Entries include last year’s winner Barizan, and third-placed Local Hero. Others to look out for are Cool Macavity, who won at last week’s Punchestown Festival and Dispour, winner of The Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Sandown Park’s Finale meeting.

Current favourites are the Paul Nicholls trained Vibrato Valtat currently and the Nicky Henderson trained Cool Macavity.

There are six other races to thrill racegoers with The Pertemps Network Spring Trophy attracting a number of exciting entries including the Richard Hannon trained Professor, locally owned by Poilin Good, who has won twice at Haydock Park, including The Sandy Lane Stakes.

Another race attracting some notable entries on Saturday is The Pertemps Network Intermediate Chase with Attaglance and Ballincurrig, entered.

A staggering £7.5 million is potentially up for grabs for a single Scoop6 winner this weekend, with some Scoop6 races likely to take place at Haydock.

Garry Fortune, racecourse general manager, said: “The Swinton Hurdle Raceday is a mixed jump and flat meeting and is one of only two to be showcased in the UK.

“It’s gearing up to be a fantastic day and a great racing line-up with many past winners returning and some exciting new contenders amongst the entries. We look forward to welcoming large crowds of racing fans to come and enjoy a great day out.”

The first race on Saturday is at 1.50pm. Admission will be available on the day but discounted tickets can be bought before midnight on Friday at www.haydock-park.co.uk or by calling 0844 579 3006.
