POLICE have confirmed an investigation is underway after a crash last night (Wednesday, May 7) that left two people trapped in the wreckage.
Emergency services were called at 7.15pm to Watery Lane, Sutton.
Officers, paramedics and firefighters found two vehicles, a silver Ford Fiesta and silver Nissan Micra.
The fire service said a 61-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman had to be to be cut free from the Micra and were taken to hospital for treatment.
There had been heavy rain showers yesterday evening, though it is unclear what impact this had on road conditions.
Road closures were put in place while officers from the Merseyside Police’s Matrix Serious and Organised Crime Roads Policing Unit examined the scene.
A police spokesman said: “Both vehicles were removed from the scene. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.”
