SHE has trodden the path from her hometown of St Helens to Hollywood and looked every inch the glamorous star as she posed on the red carpet for the premiere of her new film.

But Emma Rigby has admitted she still yearns for the gritty roles to show her range of talents.

The actress says she is looking for scripts that will change people’s impressions of the type of actress that she is.

The former Hollyoaks star, who started her acting career at the soap as a 14-year-old De La Salle pupil, features in new crime caper film Plastic.

At the movie premiere in London last week Emma, 24, took her mum along to the red carpet with her, as she maintains a desire to stay down to earth.

Emma has been shooting Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, a US TV series based on Alice In Wonderland where she plays the Red Queen, but said she would like to surprise with her next project.

She told the Press Association: “That was definitely an experience working on green screen and getting to play an evil queen. The next role I want to play is something completely different.

“I really want to work with new writers, new directors, and create something a little bit different and have people see me in a different light.”

Emma, whose portrayal of anorexic teenager Hannah Ashworth in Hollyoaks earned praise, said one her favourite roles was Prisoners’ Wives on BBC One.

She said: “That was a role where I wore no make-up, I was six months pregnant. I like those really gritty, real, raw pieces.”

Plastic, based on a true story about credit card fraudsters who is in cinemas now.
