FROM May 1 five to 15 year-olds will be able to enjoy cut price travel with the introduction of Merseytravel’s new £2 all day bus ticket.

That will be welcomed by St Helens Councillors who in the recent past highlighted how the spiralling cost of using public transport meant that some pupils didn’t complete a full week at school because they couldn’t afford to.

Merseytravel’s ‘My Ticket’ has been introduced after local authorities, bus operators and MPs vowed to bring travel cost and open up education, work and lesiure opportunities.

According to the Campaign for Better Transport in 2013, young people listed the cost of transport as their number one concern.

My Ticket can be purchased on the bus and allows unlimited all day travel across the bus network. It can also be bought from ticket machines.

Participating service providers are: A2B Travel, ACE Travel, Arriva, Avon Buses, Cumfybus, Halton Transport, Hattons, HTL Buses, Peoplesbus and Stagecoach.
