A NEW open mic night will give performers, poets, storytellers and comedians a chance to showcase their talents.

As part of St Helens Council’s Cultural Hubs programme, the bi-monthly event is to take place at Central Library in St Helens.

Word Of Mouth is a new session for people who wants to try out some poetry or prose, tell a story, or try a bit of a comedy routine.

The first Word Of Mouth night takes place on Wednesday, May 7 at 5.30pm in Central Library.

The aim is to create a friendly atmosphere and the event is open to anyone - regardless of previous experience. Places must be booked in advance by emailing artsservice@sthelens.gov.uk or calling 01744 677087.

Head of library services Sue Williamson said: “It’s great that we’ve set up this night in Central Library.

“Open mic nights have always been popular in St Helens, but there are currently limited options for wordsmiths to showcase their work in the borough so we’re really pleased to offer Central Library as a venue to fill the gap.”

Cultural Hubs is an Arts Council funded programme of work, managed by the Arts and Library services.

It is helping the council to host performances, plays, workshops, courses, events and exhibitions at 13 libraries.
