FIVE people were arrested after police discovered a gun and cannabis following a raid on a house last night (Wednesday, April 23).
Officers carried out a search of a property on Wyresdale Avenue on the Hard Lane estate, where they discovered a firearm and the drugs outside the building.
The gun, which is believed to be a revolver, is currently undergoing tests.
Four men aged 19, 20, 27, and 41 and a 36-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and are being held in custody for questioning.
Detective Sergeant Barry Jones from St Helens CID said: "We remain absolutely committed in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime and this is another firearm off our streets.
"I would encourage members of the public to share any information they have in relation to gun crime. You can be confident that we will act on all information and the information provided, no matter how small, could lead officers to recovering a gun.
"I would urge anyone with information about this incident to contact Merseyside Police on the 101 number or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
