BOWLERS are celebrating after being gifted nearly £3,000 to upgrade their green.
Vulcan Bowling Club was awarded a Coalfields Community Grant to make a greener green and has used the money to buy a new lawn mower to keep the ground in fine fettle.
St Helens Council’s grant experts helped the Newton-le-Willows club to secure the money and the improvements will open up opportunities for Vulcan to expand its fixture list and attract new members.
The money has been secured because of the area’s location within the once massive Lancashire Coalfield which died in March 1993 with the closure of Parkside Colliery at Newton-le-Willows.
Anyone interested in finding out about joining the bowling club should call secretary Stan Hughes on 01925 223149.
