ACTOR Tom Platt will play the leading role when he returns to his home town to perform in a production of The 39 Steps at Cowley International College.

Tom went to De La Salle School and then was a sixth form student at Cowley 6th before going on to London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The 21 year-old made his long awaited West End debut last year in The Play That Went Wrong in Trafalgar Studios.

The 39 Steps is a hilarious adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film with just four characters taking on at least 25 different roles. Tom, who plays the leading role of Richard Hannay is delighted at the prospect of performing on home ground.

“I am looking forward to working with such a wonderful cast and director in this amazing comedy, the fact I am back in St Helens makes it all the more special,” he said.

The play is a mix of a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit, an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and good, old-fashioned romance.

The show runs on Cowley’s 11-16 site on Hard Lane on Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25 at 7pm. For further details contact shaun.chambers@sthelens.org.uk.
