A WOMAN was taken to hospital with chest and back injuries after being cut free from the wreckage of a crash, it has emerged.

The 49-year-old had been driving a Ford Ka that was in collision with a BMW at Travers Entry, Bold on Saturday afternoon (April 5).

Firefighters cut off the roof of the KA to help free the driver from the vehicle.

Two crews from St Helens and Newton-le-Willows community fire stations along with the Merseyside search and rescue team worked at the scene for 45 minutes.

A woman passenger was out of before crews arrived. Both were taken to Whiston Hospital by ambulance.

A man who had been in the BMW turned down medical treatment.

The crash happened shortly after midday and police had to close the road for an hour and a half.

A police spokeswoman said an investigation into the collision. However, there have been no arrests.
