A MAN was arrested after a car allegedly collided with a taxi in the early hours of Sunday morning and drove away from the scene.
A 24-year-old man was questioned by police following the crash on Knowsley Road that ended with a Citroen taxi smashing into a garden wall.
The crash, which happened between 12.30am and 1am, left the 54-year-old taxi driver needing to be cut free by firefighters.
He was later taken to Whiston Hospital with an ankle injury.
Police later seized a red Ford Fiesta after searching for a car that had failed to stop at the scene.
A police spokeswoman added: βA St Helens man was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
βHe was bailed until the end of May.β
