Saints star Sia Soliola to get hair cut for Steve Prescott Foundation

St Helens Star: Hair today... gone tomorrow Hair today... gone tomorrow

A THICK mop of hair is one of the most recognisable features of Saints’ explosive Samoan forward Sia Soliola.

But, after ending up with pieces of his son’s Lego and rugby pitch turf regularly lodged in there, the big forward is finally preparing for a trim.

In an interview featured in Saints’ matchday programme, Sia revealed he had not shorn his locks since his son Israel was born in 2011.

He is preparing though to have his head shaved for the Steve Prescott Foundation at the Taylor Park Irn Bru challenge next month.

Sia said: “I spoke to Ade Cunliffe from the Steve Prescott Foundation about doing something.

“I was always going to shave my head so I thought I may as well do something productive with it.

“The whole reason why I initially grew my hair was when my son was born in 2011 we were going to get it cut together, but he never really had hair long enough!

“So it was only going to be a yearly thing, so grow it for a year and then shave it, but he had no hair when he was one.

“So I just thought I’d let it grow for a bit and it just ended up growing into a mop so I needed to get it cut.

“That’s when the idea of shaving it with Steve Prescott came about.

“I would have loved to have Steve cut it himself, but obviously he has sadly passed away, so it has pulled at my heart ever since.”

Sia has set up a fundraising page at: He added: “People can visit the website and donate and we might have an auction on the day to see who wants to shave my hair off.”

The Taylor Park Irn Bru Challenge 2014 is held on Saturday, May 3.
