SPRING gardeners are being encouraged to recycle their green waste and get a free heavy duty waste bag in return.

From Saturday Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority and Veolia Environmental Services are giving away the bags at household waste recycling centres including the Ravehead facility at Burtonhead Road.

Graham Morgan, Chairman of MRWA, said: “Our recycling bag giveaways are always popular and they encourage people to bring us waste that maybe they normally wouldn’t. The bags are sturdy, long-lasting sacks which can be used repeatedly.”

Recycling Centre green waste skips accept grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, garden prunings, leaves and twigs, woody waste, dead plants, branches, and pond and vase plants which will be turned into compost.
