A ST HELENS Star high flier has touched down in Washington DC after she was nominated for the title of Sales Executive of the Year 2013 by the newspaper owner’s parent company.

Mother-of-three Jane Ball, a senior sales executive at the Star, is in contention for the prize from US media giant Gannett.

She is in the running following her outstanding contribution to Gannett’s UK subsidiary business Newsquest, which owns the Star.

Jane was named the Newsquest Sales Executive of the Year in 2013.

Her achievement in being shortlisted is remarkable, given that Gannett is responsible for titles such as USA Today, websites and digital media organisations as well as 23 TV stations in the States watched by 21 million households.

The 36-year-old from Thatto Heath, who is entering her 16th year with the company, spoke to colleagues at the Star this morning (Tuesday, March 25) via Facetime.

She said: “I’m a bit nervous but really looking forward to the ceremony tonight and hope to bring back the award to St Helens.

“I’m here not just because of me but because of everyone at the Star.”

Jane has been praised for being able to “demonstrate the level of commitment, work ethic and skill set to succeed within this industry”.

Her husband Adrian posted a message of support via Facebook: “Well at approx 19:30 UK time my brilliant wife will be up for the Gannett Sales Executive of the year award in Washington DC.

“Please give her all the messages of support here and let her know we are all right behind her!!!

“Jane Ball regardless of what happens I'm immensely proud of you anyway x.”
