A BLACKBROOK woman's war on waste will give mothers' union members food for thought.

Trina McQueen's 'Let's Get Cooking' team project aims to reduce the amount of wasted food and on Thursday she will be in St Oswald's Church hall at Winwick.

Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority backed the retired food teacher's mission to deliver a Waste Muncher's message.

Trina will reveal some shocking facts about food waste, advise on shopping wisely and give tips on how to make the most out of your food as well as exploring recipes to save money by turning leftovers into more meals.

She will be gving a demonstration and offering the chance to taste some of the dishes made using left over ingredients.

An amazing seven million tonnes of food and drink are annually thrown away in the UK which equates to 260 kilograms per household, or £700 ending up in the bin for each household with children.

Trina's top tips include making a shopping list and sticking to it; don't shop when you're hungry because you may buy more than you need and eat fruit and vegetables when in season as they are often cheaper than imported food.

"Try apples, pears and root vegetables in winter and salad, strawberries and other soft fruit in summer," she advises.
