A NEW plan to deal with floods is being drawn up, and the council is looking to gauge the views of people and businesses before it is finalised.

A consultation was launched on Monday, and will last for eight weeks, giving people their say as to how to tackle flood problems across the town. A draft of the document can be found at sthelens.gov.uk.

Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron said: “The council is now responsible for managing local sources of flood risk. That includes flood risk from groundwater, surface water run-off and ordinary watercourses.

“Flooding is something which could affect all of us, so we want to be as prepared as possible, and this is a good initial opportunity for us to hear from residents and businesses about their concerns.”

Printed copies of the document will also be available at Wesley House reception and local libraries.
