ANDY Reid has included a moving letter to his son William in an updated paperback of his inspirational autobiography Standing Tall.

The former soldier’s story of how he overcame devastating injuries in Afghanistan to rebuild his life as a motivational speaker and charity campaigner has been widely praised.

The book features a passage in which Andy describes to his one-year-old son William how he came to suffer injuries that left him a triple amputee.

Andy knows that one day William will ask questions and feels this will be a simple way of helping him understand.

Andy told the Star: “There is a new section in the book in which I tell him what happened. I know when he’s about four or five he will start asking questions.

“I will tell him that I joined the Army and I loved the job. I went to Afghanistan to help children go to school, but there were bad men there and it was our job to Andy is pictured with wife Claire and their son William FFrroomm aa vveerryy bbrraavvee ffaathheerr too hhiis soonn Send us your news and pictures at facebook.com/ sthelensstar catch them. And one day the bad men left a bomb.

“I will tell him that I don’t dislike the people of Afghanistan.

“I have written it in a way that he will understand when he gets to a certain age.”

Andy said sales of the hardback have been very good and he is hoping more people will be able to read the paperback and draw some inspiration from the story.

As his final words to William in the book say: “By working hard and staying positive, you can achieve anything.”
