Superheroes lined up against sumos at the 10k as runners got into the spirit with some spectacular fancy dress costumes.

Batman mingled among the crowd along with Spiderman, in an alternative black costume, and the brightly coloured Bananaman, who helped keep spirits up during the event.

Two nuns were spotted along the course running side by side, while a leprechaun brought a smile to the faces of the crowds that lined North Road and packed Langtree Park.

The 118 men (pictured) in the trademark moustaches and curly wigs were also spotted pounding along the course, along with Saints mascot Boots and the Rochdale Hornets mascot.

Darren Henderson again pushed his stamina to the limit dressed in an eye-catching outfit as the movie alien Predator. It comes a year after the 31-year-old from Moss Bank tackled the 10k dressed as a knight in chainmail and carrying a huge sword.

And Ian Pugh was relieved to cross the finish line in his skin tight Morphsuit, which kept his identity a secret until he ripped off his mask at the end of the run.

One runner even ran in an inflatable sumo wrestler’s outfit, which looked a little deflated as he triumphantly entered the stadium.
