A HOUSING estate built to accommodate workers who helped make Vulcan locomotives is being given a train-themed makeover.

Land surrounding low-rise apartment blocks in Stephenson Road will be transformed by regeneration specialist Keepmoat.

A railway path, a children’s play tunnel and a train-themed play park will reflect the estate’s train building heritage. Dozens of amateur gardeners planted daffodils, wild garlic and bluebells to add colour to the transformation.

Brian Beddows, of Keepmoat, said: “It will be great to see all their hard work come to life in spring.”

To further encourage wildlife and sustainability, Keepmoat is providing residents with free bat and bird boxes, water buts and energy monitors. These will be installed free of charge by the regeneration specialist and the energy monitors will help residents efforts to reduce their bills.

Alex Willey of Affinity Sutton, which owns and manages the homes, said: “The involvement of the residents has been invaluable and the result will be something we can all be very proud of.”
