A MIDSUMMER music spectacular that attracted 200,000 people to 326 free events is being repeated.

Musicians and community groups are being encouraged to sign up for Our Big Gig, with grants and support available for organisation who wish to hold community events in their area.

Funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government the event will highlight new and existing talent and give others the opportunity to make music in the July 11-13 event.

Last year Merseyside performances included those held at St Helens Central Library, Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park and Aintree University Hospital.

For 2014, all types of community organisations are being urged to apply to put on an event. All successful applicants receive grant funding and event management training is provided.

Organised by music and arts organisation Superact, Our Big Gig is an official ‘Spirit of 2012’ legacy event.

Superact director Katharine Lane, said: ““We’re looking forward to receiving event applications from across the country and would encourage as many people as possible to apply before March 31.”
