A COMMUNITY’s skate zone has been officially opened by Saints skipper Paul Wellens and Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Andy Bowden.
It has been created at the King George V Playing Fields, in Haydock.
For the past decade Haydock Community Group and councillors have been championing the creation of a skate park.
But progress accelerated in the past year when Cory Environmental Trust In Britain donated £50,000.
A further £20,000 came from the Haydock Councillors Improvement Fund, which has council money set aside to enhance communities.
Joining in the official opening was Andy Moore, a youth representative in the Haydock Community heavily involved in the planning.
