As runners pass over the newly christened Steve Prescott Bridge they will see it decked out in brightly coloured bunting.
The brainchild of the St Helens Women’s Institute, it consists of 1,235 crocheted triangles.
Louise Miller, the president of the St Helens branch, said: “For us there are three reasons why we are doing it; firstly in memory of Steve Prescott, to do something to support the run and for our members, sharing the knowledge they have and teaching other members how to do something like this.”
