FIREFIGHTERS will be out with buckets and sponges washing cars this month to boost The Fire Fighters Charity.

Merseyside Chief Fire Officer Dan Stephens said: “We urge people to support the day. Your valued donations will go towards helping thousands of men, women and children from the fire and rescue community during their times of need.”

As part of the service’s national car wash event Newton-le-Willows firefighters will be rolling up their sleeves from 11.30am to 4pm on Saturday, March 29 at Costco, Andover Road, Haydock.

John Parry, chief executive of The Fire Fighters Charity, said: “This fun event also provides an opportunity for the Fire and Rescue Service to talk to people about issues such as flooding, road safety and fire prevention. As a charity, we rely entirely upon donations. We would like to encourage people to show their support and afterwards drive away safely, in a clean car."
