A NEW car park in the town centre is another commitment to help retailers in St Helens, says the council leader.

A ten space pay and display car park has been built on the site of the former Maloney’s Bar and Martines nightclub on Waterloo Street near to Tyrers.

A council spokesperson claims that St Helens is “one of the cheapest places to park in the North West”.

They said that St Helens also operates a ‘Free after Three’ scheme on Chalon Way, St Mary’s and Birchley Street and a large part of the town centre is now open on Sunday.

Council Leader Barrie Grunewald said: "The council is totally committed to finding different ways of supporting our retailers in these difficult trading times. The ‘Free after Three’ scheme is proving very popular and this extra car park will greatly add to our drive to attract more shoppers into the town."
