VOLUNTEERS braved the wind and the rain to build a safe haven for a group of thriving honey bees.
Members of Newton-le-Willows Prince’s Trust teamed up with a delegation from the Department for Work and Pensions at Lyme & Wood Pits Country Park in Haydock.
They created a windbreak out of a dead hedge to protect exposed bee hives from the wind.
Former Saints player Tim Jonkers, who is now a team leader for the Princes Trust programme, said: “The Prince’s Trust team really gained a lot of valuable experience and we look forward to working together in the future.”
The event was part of a woodland management programme organised by the park’s development ranger Scott Lancaster.
