DETECTIVES investigating reports of an assault against a woman are appealing for drivers to come forward who may be able to offer information.

Officers were called to Church Road in Haydock on Saturday, February 15 following reports that an assault had taken place earlier in the day.

At around 10am a woman holding a baby was spotted outside the property by a woman driving past who stopped to check on her welfare.

Detective Inspector Paul Unsworth said: "This motorist was kind enough to stop her car to check if the woman was OK.

"We believe she may have information which could help us with our inquiries and I would appeal to her to get in touch with us.

"Church Road is a busy 'A' road and other people driving past may also have seen something out of the ordinary. If you were in the area on that Saturday morning and noticed anything unusual, I'd urge you to get in contact with us."
