St Helens Star: Man fined after giving false name to dog wardens Man fined after giving false name to dog wardens

A MAN who gave dog wardens a false name when his pet was caught fouling in Taylor Park has been hit with a heavy fine.

Clive Rogers from Springfield Lane in Eccleston pleaded guilty at St Helens Magistrates’ Court to failing to clean up after his dog.

When he was challenged the 64-year-old gave a false name and address in an attempt to avoid the £80 Fixed Penalty.

However he was later traced to his home address. The court ordered him to pay £150 for the fouling offence and £250 for providing false information to an authorised council officer.

The council were awarded £800 in costs and a £25 victim surcharge was also imposed.

Councillor Seve Gomez Aspron, Cabinet Member for Environment and Neighbourhoods said: "Irresponsible dog walkers who believe they can 'get away' by giving false details to officers are very much mistaken. The council will use all the tools available, to track down these offenders and the courts will deal with them accordingly as Mr Rogers has now found to his cost.

"Dog walkers have no excuse, to not clean up when their dog fouls. Free 'Poop-Scoops' are available at all libraries and many housing providers’ offices."

So it cost him £1225 yet if he was to repeatedly shoplift or assault someone the consequences would be considerably less
